Lithuanian border fence keeps killing animals

MINSK, 15 September (BelTA) - The fence, installed by Lithuania on the border with Belarus, violate the environmental legislation and continue to cause damage to the border fauna, BelTA learned from the State Border Committee.

“A moose became another victim of the concertina wire within the Dotyshki outpost of the Lida border guard unit. The animal got trapped in the wire and lost a lot of blood. Unfortunately, Belarusian servicemen found the animal dead. Specialists of the environmental protection agency visited the scene,” the State Border Committee said.

The committee added: “European environmental organizations intentionally pay no attention and take no action, despite the obvious facts of animal deaths due to the installation of the concertina wire by the Lithuanian authorities. This is the third such case at the Lithuanian border.”
