MOGILEV, 8 July (BelTA) – The Krichev History Museum is planning to set up a virtual exhibition dedicated to the life and heritage of Prince Potemkin. The multimedia expo will feature photos, videos, texts, a variety of infographics and interactives, Vladimir Mishchenko, director of the Krichev History Museum, told BelTA.
“Our joint project with the Agency for Integration Initiatives (Smolensk, Russia) ‘By the Roads of Potemkin: Visiting the places connected with the prince-creator' has won a grant of the president of the Russian Federation. Thanks to this, we will set up a virtual exhibition dedicated to the life and heritage of the prince. It will feature the town of Krichev, Smolensk where Potemkin was from, Crimea, in the development of which Potemkin was actively engaged. We want this project to unite all the most important and iconic places connected with the life of Prince Potemkin, to introduce contemporaries to his life and work, to tell about his heritage and descendants. It will be an international project, which will bring together representatives from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine and Moldova,” Vladimir Mishchenko said.
In the first stage of the project its participants will gather for an international meet-up “First Russian statesman of Crimea” on the Black Sea coast. Local historians, geographers, tourism specialists, journalists and youth activists will help collect unique exhibits of the Crimean period of Grigory Potemkin's life.
“We are planning to conduct an international historical quest ‘Chizhevo – the hometown of Grigory Potemkin' which will be held in Smolensk Oblast. Later, a press tour and an instagram tour for journalists and young people will be organized in Krichev,” Vladimir Mishchenko said. “Our idea is to set up not only a virtual exhibition accessible to anyone in any corner of the world. We want to make a new tourist route that will connect Smolensk, Krichev and the Crimean Peninsula.”
The project starts in October this year and will last until October 2021.
