Kochanova urges to remember and honor everyone who took part in liberation of Belarus

MINSK, 21 April (BelTA) – We should remember and honor all those who took part in the liberation of Belarus, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova told journalists during the opening of the exhibition titled as Unity of the people - the key to the Great Victory, BelTA reports.

The exhibition has been arranged in the hall of the Council of the Republic. It features 16 tablets and tells about the exploits of people of different nationalities, who liberated Belarus, about the heroism and skill of partisans and underground fighters of Belarus.

"We are approaching a significant date this year - the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. Although it should be said that every year we celebrate this holiday [Victory Day] with special feelings, because Belarus was the first country to take the blow. These tragic events that took place on our land are in our hearts. We see that today more and more new facts of genocide of the Belarusian people are revealed. We must remember the history and pass this history from generation to generation," believes Natalya Kochanova. "Today, in the Council of the Republic we opened an exhibition about those soldiers who took part in the liberation of Belarus and fought for our Belarus (we are grateful to the Belarusian State Museum of History of the Great Patriotic War)."
The victory in the Great Patriotic War was international. "It was the Soviet Union and people of different nationalities fought shoulder to shoulder for their Motherland. We should not forget this," the Speaker noted. “We have recently returned from St. Petersburg where we had a regular meeting of the session of CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly. There was a solemn meeting dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, and all the speakers, my colleagues from different countries of the CIS, spoke about the Great Victory, about the contribution by each nation to this victory. Some sheltered people who evacuated like Uzbekistan. Some supplied oil for the whole country, and this was fuel for military equipment. Many fought on the battlefields, all together. So today we must remember and honor the memory of all those who took part in the liberation of our dear Belarus."

"We have never forgotten that. We have streets named after heroes from different countries, different nationalities. We have monuments dedicated to those who died fighting the fascists. To people of different nationalities, to heroes of different nationalities. This exhibition is very symbolic for us today; we are members of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly. we, more than anyone else, understand how important unity is in defending our Motherland. Today we are in different countries, but we are together and we talk about this Great Victory. We are proud of our ancestors who fought together, defended the freedom and independence of our common home - the Soviet Union. And, of course, we will do everything to ensure that this historical truth is passed on from generation to generation," Natalya Kochanova emphasized.
