Joint session of both chambers of Belarusian parliament in progress in Minsk

MINSK, 29 October (BelTA) – A joint session of the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly is in progress in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

It is the first joint session of the parliament’s chambers that has been organized within the framework of the parliamentary session for parliamentarians to present their questions and for the government to give answers. The session is dedicated to ensuring the steady operation of the manufacturing sector this year.

It was noted during the session that global geopolitical confrontation clearly indicates that the presence of a well-developed industrial base is a significant factor for ensuring the security and independence of the state, social and economic stability. Belarus’ manufacturing sector is a key branch of the economy, accounting for nearly one third of the gross domestic product and three fourths of the export. This is why the president closely monitors the operation of the industrial sector.

During recent conferences and in the course of appointing heads of several ministries and industrial enterprises Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko identified a series of problems relating to the development of the economy in the final year of the five-year term. It is important for MPs to not only hear about results of the manufacturing sector’s operation but jointly discuss possible ways to address the lingering issues. Additional preparations and prompt adoption of bills geared towards the development of this sphere may be necessary.

It was pointed out that the bill “On the state registration and liquidation (termination of operation) of commercial entities” and the bill on energy saving are getting prepared for the second reading while the bill on leasing activity is getting prepared for the first one. A number of international treaties will be ratified soon, including a Belarusian-Russian treaty on forming a joint market of electricity of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. Its ratification will become an important step towards creating the common energy space of the two countries. Commercial entities have been looking forward to it.

Other important bills are expected to be brought into the parliament as well. They are designed to ensure an increase in quality and in the competitive ability of Belarusian goods and services, assist with building up the country’s industrial potential.
