Is Lublin Triangle trying to sour Belarus-U.S. ties? Expert weighs in

MINSK, 5 February (BelTA) - Belarus was a recurring topic of discussion at the Lublin Triangle summit, Andrei Bogodel, Deputy Head of the Faculty of Education and Science – Head of the Education and Methodology Department of the Faculty of the General Staff of the Armed Forces at the Military Academy of Belarus, said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
The expert recalled that the Lublin Triangle summit was held quite recently in Vilnius and was attended by leaders of Lithuania, Ukraine, and Poland - Gitanas Nausėda, Vladimir Zelensky, and Karol Nawrocki. Andrei Bogodel noted that the discussion was predictably Russophobic, and Belarus was a recurring topic. “Let’s recall how they spoke about the Republic of Belarus. They mentioned us in practically every paragraph. It is no coincidence that Karol Nawrocki even let it slip at the end: 'I hope that it will be four of us at the next summit.’ It is clear whom he meant by the fourth - the Republic of Belarus,” the expert remarked.

Andrei Bogodel pointed out that this event cannot be overlooked. “When we look at everything linked together - 'the Belarusian people are under the yoke of a dictator today,' and so on… It's all about the same thing, their rhetoric never changes. A couple of days later, we suddenly see the news of [Belarusian journalist] Inna Kardash being detained by the SBU in Kiev, and the rhetoric starts again: 'Belarusians, the KGB, are operating in Kiev with impunity.' Then they start bringing up the topic of drones again. Then Zelensky once again talks about Oreshnik and tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, saying, "If only we had helped them back in 2020, done something, this wouldn't be happening today, and there would be no threat to Europe.’ Then we begin to realize: efforts are underway to distance us from, say, the United States, to raise questions for Trump like, isn’t it too soon for you to lift sanctions on Belaruskali and Belavia? Or why did you admit Belarus to the Board of Peace while no country from the Baltics, for instance, is represented there?” Andrei Bogodel said emphasizing that our Belarus got an invitation to join the Board of Peace.
