Internal affairs minister in Khatyn: World needs to reflect on the fact that war spares no one

LOGOISK DISTRICT, 22 March (BelTA) – The world needs to think about the fact that war spares no one. Belarusian Internal Affairs Minister Ivan Kubrakov offered the opinion during events timed to the 83rd anniversary of the Khatyn tragedy, BelTA has learned.

Ivan Kubrakov said: “Every year on 22 March thousands of Belarusians and citizens of other countries come here to pay their respects to the defenseless people who were brutally murdered by the Nazis during the Great Patriotic War. This is a tribute not only to the victims of the Khatyn tragedy, but also to all the victims of the Great Patriotic War. After all, so many villages were burned to the ground. The Republic of Belarus remembers and will never forget the atrocities committed by the Nazis in our land.”
He pointed out that the memory of those terrible events is passed down from generation to generation. “We did not come here alone, but with our young people. These are members of our military-patriotic clubs, cadets, to whom we keep telling what can happen if we fail to appreciate the lessons of history,” the minister noted.
The head of the law enforcement agency also added that the whole world must reflect on the fact that war spares no one: neither the elderly nor children; innocent, blameless people perish during wars. “In many countries monuments are being destroyed and demolished. And we see where this will lead – to new tragedies, to new victims. We will do everything to prevent a repeat of those terrible events,” emphasized Ivan Kubrakov.

Representatives of all defense, security, and law enforcement agencies in Belarus took part in the events marking the 83rd anniversary of the Khatyn tragedy.
“The organization of such events is an important aspect of preserving historical memory, especially in these complicated times when we observe a serious crisis in international relations. I consider it necessary to attend these events. It is important to experience those terrible years here, on the spot,” noted Konstantin Bychek, Chairman of the Investigative Committee.
