MINSK, 4 February (BelTA) – Belarus’ Transport and Communications Minister Aleksei Lyakhnovich held a meeting with representatives of an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) mission that has arrived in Belarus, BelTA learned from the press service of the Transport and Communications Ministry.
The ICAO expert group arrived to conduct an audit and inspection of the state system for flight safety oversight in Belarus' civil aviation.
According to the minister, Belarus has been a member of the Convention on International Civil Aviation since 1992 and strictly adheres to ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices, implementing them into national legislation. Ensuring flight safety as one of the Convention's fundamental principles is a priority for Belarus. Furthermore, Belarus supports ICAO initiatives to establish an effective state safety oversight system, implement environmental sustainability in global civil aviation aimed at reducing carbon emissions into the airspace.
“The most critical task for the Belarusian aviation industry is the implementation of the ICAO Strategic Plan for 2026-2050,” Aleksei Lyakhnovich noted. “The Republic of Belarus shares the high-priority objective of the ICAO Strategic Plan regarding ensuring equality and promoting women’s participation in civil aviation. The year 2026 has been officially declared the Year of the Belarusian Woman in Belarus.”
The Strategic Plan and the ICAO's six strategic objectives encompass ensuring flight safety and aviation security; environmental sustainability of aviation; accessibility of air navigation and airport services; interaction with all ICAO members; up-to-date international air law; and economic development and social well-being.
