Experts explain why snap combat readiness checks are necessary

MINSK, 17 March (BelTA) - Why are snap combat readiness checks necessary? Experts provided answers to this question in the recent episode of BelTA’s The Nation Speaks project.

Anatoly Bulavko, a member of the Standing Commission on National Security of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, noted that after constant sudden checks, a habituation effect sets in. “We expect the unexpected every day, every minute. And when that unexpected happens, God forbid, there won’t be much agitation anymore -the person knows what to do. This is achieved exclusively through the element of surprise in actions,” the MP believes. “When a person is warned, they always have the opportunity to prepare. But life very rarely gives the opportunity to prepare.”

Combat and mobilization readiness are the foundation, two main tasks for which the Armed Forces must be prepared day and night, every second, said Viktor Tumar, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces for Scientific Work. “From the trends in modern armed conflicts, it is clear that they begin suddenly. Suddenly for the country that is defending itself,” he noted, adding that Belarus has a defensive Military Doctrine.

Training and readiness are the norm for the Belarusian army, emphasized Aleksandr Tishchenko, an expert in national security. “Checks, in my understanding, are conducted to see whether this indicator has dropped. Because the degree and factor of readiness are the main condition for combat readiness and combat capability. Another point is when on television and in newspapers they overuse topics about the hardships that military personnel experience,” he said.

“I recall, for instance, people saying that it was a harsh winter. But I served in the Far North, and there, 30 m/s winds, icy snow, or horizontal rain were considered normal. And people, just young lads, carried out their tasks. Moreover, in the Kurils, where the situation was constantly at a wartime level. So this is the classic reality. Perhaps we should instill in our guys not so much the idea that they endured some hardships, but that they simply know how to do this. It is the norm of any military service. As it is written in the manual - to steadfastly bear the burdens and hardships of military service. This is a classic principle; I remember it from Suvorov Military School. It is what forms the backbone of any soldier, any fighter, any commander. Therefore, checks are necessary to ensure the level of training does not decline,” the expert emphasized.

Surprise is one of the conditions of training. “The surprise factor must become a reflex that is always present in any military personnel. So everything here is correct, everything is logical,” Aleksandr Tishchenko said.
