Expert: Questioning Ukraine support makes one Putin’s agent in the West

MINSK, 28 August (BelTA) – Raising any uncomfortable question about Ukraine in Western media was enough to get you labeled as Putin’s agent, political observer with the media group Rossiya Segodnya Vladimir Kornilov said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
When asked whether there is room for people who think even slightly differently from Kiev in the West, Vladimir Kornilov that there has been virtually none until recently. “Many people note this and complain. As soon as you ask a question, like, why do we need to help Ukraine? Or maybe Ukraine is no less guilty than Russia, and so on? If you connect social and economic problems with aid to Ukraine and say this on air – that is it, you immediately get labeled as an agent of Russia, an agent of Putin,” the political observer said.

“And in Western Europe and the USA, this meant being banned from the media, vanishing from public life and becoming a complete outcast. And in Eastern Europe – Poland, Finland, a number of other countries obsessed with Russophobia, the Baltic countries, of course – people were subjected to searches, forced to flee the country and faced criminal charges. Initially, they tried to treat this way even those who did not support Russia but merely asked uncomfortable questions in this regard,” Vladimir Kornilov said.

He stated that especially after the summit in Alaska, things have become easier for them. “Suddenly, they started inviting back to the air some people who had been banished two or three years ago. An example is the Italian professor Alessandro Orsini, who since 2022 has constantly been explaining to them why Ukraine will lose, why the West was wrong to intervene in this war, why Russia has grounds for conducting a special military operation. Suddenly, they started inviting him back on Italian television from time to time. Although recently he was on their blacklist,” the political analyst shared. “Suddenly, Professor Orr from Cambridge published an article in the Daily Telegraph, a very pro-Ukrainian newspaper that has always supported Ukraine and criticized Russia, not allowing any other opinion on the matter. He has published an article recently where he says that their elites, conservatives, the right, have a Ukrainian brain disease and need to get rid of it because Britain is not in a position to support Ukraine. He also came under fire, yet such publications started to appear.” Vladimir Kornilov emphasized that all these examples are a sign of certain changes.
