"On Point"
MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) – Doctor of Political Sciences, expert on national security and the Middle East Simon Tsipis outlined potential ways to settle the conflict in Ukraine in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“Ukraine may become a member of the European Union (something Vladimir Putin has mentioned) if it wants to. Besides, this is no reason to be concerned about as the EU is going to break up soon anyway. Essentially, the EU is an exhausted political entity doomed to collapse,” Simon Tsipis said.
The expert believes that alongside EU membership, Ukraine must become a non-bloc state, stressing that this refers to NATO. “There are precedents for this. For example, Türkiye is a member of NATO and not a member of the European Union. There is no problem doing the same regarding Kiev, just the other way around. Ukraine could become a member of the European Union and not join NATO. This is feasible since such a practice already exists,” Simon Tsipis added.
The expert proposed federalization as another viable path to settle the conflict. “There is nothing preventing Ukraine from becoming a federation, with regions enjoying limited independence or autonomy. This second scenario is completely feasible, I think,” Simon Tsipis noted.
