MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) - A soldier’s professionalism enables him to accomplish more on the battlefield than a single drone, Doctor of Military Sciences, Professor Nikolai Buzin said in a recent episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
Discussing the use of drones on the battlefield, the military expert noted that unmanned systems cannot solve 100% of the tasks facing an army. “Quite often, it is a soldier’s professionalism that allows him to accomplish more on the battlefield than a single drone or any other means of engagement. I’m talking about a trained individual with standard weapons - whether an assault rifle, machine gun, or grenade launcher,” Nikolai Buzin said. “We live in a wooded and marshy terrain. A drone cannot fly through the crown of a spruce tree. And even if it does, it won’t complete its mission.”
He stressed that the Belarusian army is adapting to the specific conditions of the country: “We live on our own land, and it is this land we will defend. To do so, we need both previous-generation weapons and new means of engagement.”
At the same time, Nikolai Buzin believes that equipping the Armed Forces with drones and other advanced systems must take certain conditions into account, namely, the availability of the necessary control systems and personnel capable of using them professionally. In this regard, the military expert noted that Belarus has accumulated certain expertise and achievements.
“But abandoning well-proven systems in favor of something virtual is not the step of a well-trained military professional. It is the step of an adventurer. And there are no adventurers in Belarus,” Nikolai Buzin concluded.
