MINSK, 29 March (BelTA) - Kiev shows no real intentions of making peace, former Prime Minister of Ukraine (2010-2014) Nikolai Azarov said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.
The former prime minister of Ukraine noted that the media regularly raises the topic of some kind of peace agreement that Moscow and Kiev might conclude. At the same time, in his view, the actual actions of the Ukrainian leadership demonstrate its unwillingness to pursue any kind of peace.

“The Kiev regime is amassing resources along the line of contact, undertaking counteroffensive actions regardless of losses. In the Zaporozhye and Kharkov directions, defensive fortification lines are being actively built, and enormous efforts are being spent on constructing long-term fortifications. These are the real actions that need to be assessed,” said Nikolai Azarov.

The former prime minister of Ukraine pointed to a recent statement by Vladimir Zelensky, who declared that the Armed Forces of Ukraine do not intend to leave Donbas. “He also claims that the Americans are demanding a withdrawal from Donbas, promising that then Ukraine will be fine and get security guarantees. That means Kiev has no real intention of making peace,” he emphasized.

Furthermore, Nikolai Azarov noted that the population needs to be prepared for any possible peace agreement. Ukrainians will demand an explanation as to why, over several years, the economy has been destroyed, territories have been lost, and people have died. “People probably wouldn’t understand that. But there is no preparation for this whatsoever,” the former prime minister said.

To support his words, he drew attention to the fact that Ukrainian media, on the contrary, continue to use belligerent rhetoric and talk of Ukraine’s imminent victory over Russia: “The population is being prepared for the continuation of the war. And nothing is being done to at least lay the groundwork for negotiations.”

Moreover, Nikolai Azarov added, the West that stands behind Ukraine is also in no way inclined toward peace with Russia. The former prime minister cited a recent example: the attack on a Turkish tanker carrying Russian oil. “This happened 16 miles off the coast of Türkiye at the entrance to the Bosporus. The attack was carried out using unmanned boats, a technology in which England specializes exclusively. There is no doubt that it was England that planned this attack practically in Türkiye’s territorial waters. So the masters are also against peace,” he concluded.
