MINSK, 1 January (BelTA) – To declare 2026 the Year of the Belarusian Woman was a personal idea and proposal from the Belarus president. The president’s Press Secretary Natalya Eismont mentioned it on the air of the TV channel Belarus One on New Year’s Eve, BelTA has learned.
BelTA reported earlier that Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko declared the theme of the year 2026 in his New Year’s address to the nation: “We honor our mothers, wives, and daughters one day per year. It is time to give proper respect to the special role they play in our life and declare the year 2026 the Year of the Belarusian Woman. Nature has not created anything more perfect than women! We will watch over our women and our land. We will protect our future – families, friends, and relatives – from disasters and hardships.”
Before the Belarusian leader addressed the nation, in the evening on 31 December Natalya Eismont said that multiple variants had existed initially. Some of them had been put aside. Some had been discarded.
“I am absolutely convinced that the theme of the next year will hit everyone, will get everyone. For sure,” the press secretary was convinced. “It will be a totally special year. It was a personal idea and proposal of the president.”
