MINSK, 19 December (BelTA) – The birth of a child is not only a personal joy, but also a contribution to the future of the country, BelTA learned from Lyudmila Moroz, Director of the Stolin Territorial Center for Social Services to the Population, on the sidelines of the second session of the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress.
“Young people increasingly often postpone the decision to start a family and have children,” said Lyudmila Moroz. “I want to be heard: children in a family are the physical and spiritual continuation of their parents, their natural replacement in the future. And if we speak more broadly, the birth of a child is not only personal happiness, but also a contribution to the future of the country.”
When the president encourages women to have children, he says that motherhood is a woman’s greatest calling and it does not contradict her professional growth, the delegate noted. “In Belarus all the conditions have been created to combine career and family. We have 11 types of benefits related to the birth and upbringing of children. Mothers with many children can choose the form of support themselves: either an additional day off per week or working for one hour less per day. The state support system is well thought out in detail: from housing and education to healthcare and social services. All of that requires not only gratitude, but also a conscious attitude,” she believes.
Lyudmila Moroz noted: “The family is the highest value, and we have always, at all times, put it first along with the country and traditions. This position is also reflected in the social and economic development program for the next five years.”
The delegate also stressed that participants of the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress will definitely convey everything they have heard firsthand from the president and fellow delegates to their local communities, especially on such important matters as demographic security. “And here I am particularly keen to share the experience of Stolin District. We have strong traditions of large families, which are passed down from generation to generation. There are more than 2,300 large families living in the district, and 868 women have been awarded the Order of Motherhood. These figures are no coincidence. Devotion to the Motherland is an honor for Polesie region residents. It is the motto of all Stolin District residents. It is the result of a life choice, respect for the blood line, the land, and history,” said Lyudmila Moroz. “I have five children in my family and I am proud of that. I am also proud that I live in a district where large families are the norm, not an exception.”
