MINSK, 21 January (BelTA) – The Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs has refuted the information reported online about an Indian citizen who came to Belarus for work, was allegedly trapped in forced labor and is unable to return home.
The Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs has stated that this information is fake.
“Employees of the Citizenship and Migration Department have established the following: last November, the 38-year-old foreign national arrived in Belarus for employment purposes. Based on a contract with an agricultural enterprise, she was issued a temporary residence permit for the Republic of Belarus and was provided with housing in a brick house with all amenities,” the Interior Ministry said.
Just eight days after her arrival, her employment contract was terminated.
Accordingly, the temporary residence permit was annulled. It is known that after this, the woman traveled to Russia and then returned to Belarus.
The migrant admitted that an agent in India had promised her a different job but, upon her arrival, stopped answering her calls.
Currently, the woman is being provided with all necessary assistance, including assistance related to her return home.
“The internal affairs bodies are conducting an inspection to clarify the circumstances of the citizen’s stay in our country. All individuals involved, including employers and intermediaries in her employment, are being identified. Their actions will be subject to legal assessment,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs added.
Thus, the information on the Internet on this topic has not been confirmed. In this regard, the Ministry of Internal Affairs warns that spreading false information carries legal responsibility.
“Belarus is open to law-abiding guests. At the same time, the domestic labor market is under the control of the police and other state bodies. Violations of the law, including by intermediaries recruiting foreigners for employment, will not go unnoticed and may serve as grounds for holding the guilty parties accountable,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted.
