Belarusian doctors to adopt traditional Chinese medicine practices

VITEBSK, 28 October (BelTA) – Medical facilities of Braslav District intend to embrace methods of traditional Chinese medicine to treat nervous system diseases and musculoskeletal system diseases, BelTA learned from Chief Medical Officer of Braslav Central District Hospital Aleksandr Makarevich.

According to him, Braslav District hosted a delegation of China's Hubei Province last week. The delegation included senior officials of Hubei University of Chinese Medicine and Jingzhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. During the meeting, Chinese guests got familiar with the Belarusian multi-level healthcare system and training of specialists, visited the departments of surgery and pediatrics, the outpatient and dental departments of the hospital, and held master classes on acupuncture and massage.

“Our hospital signed a cooperation agreement with Hubei University of Chinese Medicine. This opens up new opportunities to establish close partnership ties,” Aleksandr Makarevich stressed.

The parties intend to carry out joint research and educational projects and launch training courses for partners. Another area of cooperation will be exchanging best practices in traditional medicine. “We are considering setting up a rehabilitation department in our hospital. The department will apply methods of manual therapy and acupuncture that our Chinese colleagues will teach us. In combination with drug therapy it will yield substantial results in treating nervous system diseases and musculoskeletal system diseases,” Aleksandr Makarevich added.

The Braslav District administration noted that Braslav District has been cooperating with China in various fields. In summer, Braslav District hosted a group of Chinese teachers who gave lessons in the Chinese language and calligraphy for local school students. In association with the company Chinese-European Culture Jinren, the district administration opened the Braslav representation office in Beijing and launched a website in the Chinese language in order to promote its economy and tourism. In November, the local authorities plan to sign a cooperation agreement with the administration of the city of Jingzhou.
