Belarus to join European Parliament to mark Holocaust Remembrance Day

MINSK, 10 January (BelTA) - Belarus will take part in the upcoming events in the European Parliament to observe the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in Belgium.

This issue was discussed, among others, during a meeting between Permanent Representative of Belarus to the European Union Alexander Mikhnevich and President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani. The parties also talked about the further development of relations between Belarus and the European legislative body. The parties agreed to continue working-level contacts on issues of mutual interest, including Belarus' participation in the commemorative events in the European Parliament to observe the International Holocaust Remembrance Day on 27 January.

The International Holocaust Remembrance Day was instituted by the UN General Assembly on 1 November 2005 and is observed in the European Union on 27 January every year. The European Parliament traditionally holds commemorative events on this day.
