Belarus to establish international research center in pharmaceuticals

MINSK, 19 March (BelTA) - An international research center in pharmaceuticals will be established in Belarus, Vladimir Karanik, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB), said during the Belarusian-Indian Pharma Business Forum in Minsk on 19 March, BelTA has learned.

“The National Academy of Sciences places particular importance on cooperation with the Republic of India, a country with enormous scientific and economic potential, with which Belarus has developed strong relations in all sectors, including pharmaceuticals. Direct contacts have been established with Indian manufacturers, providing Belarusian enterprises with the opportunity to uninterruptedly purchase everything necessary for the production of a wide range of domestic medicines,” Vladimir Karanik said. As an example of successful interaction, he cited the cooperation of the state enterprise Academpharm with two Indian pharmaceutical manufacturers - Cipla and Reliance Life Sciences.

A key area of interaction between Belarus and India is deepening technological cooperation in areas such as secondary packaging of Indian drugs at the enterprise’s facilities, technology transfer in drug production from leading Indian manufacturers, organizing joint production sites, and contract manufacturing for further export to EAEU markets.

According to Vladimir Karanik, a project has been initiated to create an international research center, whose scope of work will include the following activities: conducting research, including on behalf of foreign partners; preparation and expert review of registration dossiers according to EAEU rules; development of production technologies in the form of pilot batches; organization of clinical trials within the EAEU; and development and validation of new methods for the control of substances and finished dosage forms. “The establishment of such a center will contribute to increasing the output of new high-tech finished products with a high degree of localization, which will strengthen the position of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in the pharmaceutical market and contribute to ensuring the technological sovereignty of the Republic of Belarus in the healthcare sector,” the chairman of the NASB Presidium said.

He is convinced that the forum will open a new chapter in the development of cooperation between Belarus and India.
