MINSK, 26 March (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia’s Arkhangelsk Oblast will join efforts to carry out joint scientific research projects in the Arctic. The agreement was reached during talks between Aleksei Trukhanov, Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB), and Ivan Dementyev, Deputy Chairman of the Arkhangelsk Oblast Government, the NASB press service told BelTA.
“Joint research can yield valuable scientific results and contribute to the development of Arctic science, becoming a powerful driver of progress and economic growth. Such initiatives help deepen our understanding of climate processes and advance technologies for the sustainable use of Arctic resources,” Aleksei Trukhanov said.
The parties agreed to implement a number of important and promising initiatives aimed at addressing current environmental and scientific challenges. These include the development of advanced technologies for producing high-efficiency peat-based sorbents and conducting research on the genetic and selective reproduction of forest ecosystems.
Work is currently underway on an international cooperation agreement and a joint action plan for 2026 between the NASB Institute of Environmental Management and the Lomonosov Northern (Arctic) Federal University.
