Belarus’ need to diversify markets explained

MINSK, 9 December (BelTA) – The share of export in Belarus’ GDP exceeds 60%. It requires the country to diversity its target markets. Georgy Grits, an economic analyst, Ph.D. in Economics, offered the opinion in the latest episode of BelTA’s YouTube project On Point.
Georgy Grits drew attention to the fact that matters of food security are a major concern in the modern world. At the same time in addition to fully satisfying the domestic demand Belarus exports a considerable amount of food. As Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko noted, the country is expected to earn a record high of over $9 billion from the export of food and agricultural raw materials in 2025.

“Export is of critical importance for us because our economy is oriented towards export. I will simply quote some figures. The average share of the world’s export of goods and services as against the world’s GDP stands at about 30%. The share of export in Belarus’ GDP exceeds 60%,” Georgy Grits cited the statistics.

The expert stressed that the matter of diversifying the target markets remains topical for Belarus. In his opinion, this work should be done not only by ministries but also by the diplomatic corps and the management of enterprises.
