MINSK, 19 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Kyrgyzstan exchanged experience of municipal solid waste (MSW) management as Belarusian First Deputy Housing and Utilities Minister Andrei Beketa visited Bishkek, BelTA learned from the Housing and Utilities Ministry.
The Belarusian delegation also included representatives of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry, the Energy Ministry, the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee, the Minsk city housing and utilities enterprise, the unitary enterprise Belkommunproyekt, and other organizations.
The delegation visited a waste incineration plant in Bishkek, the first MSW disposal project in Central Asia to feature simultaneous electricity generation. Built with the help of about $95 million in Chinese investments, the enterprise can process up to 365,000 tonnes of waste per year and generate electricity for municipal needs thanks to a 30MW power plant. To ensure environmental safety, it uses multi-stage gas purification systems and automatic real-time monitoring of environmental parameters.
During the visit the sides exchanged experience in MSW management, the introduction of modern recycling technologies, the use of waste as an energy source as well as the development of the housing and utilities sector.
