MINSK, 18 June (BelTA) – The Belarusian president has backed proposals to adjust the measures outlined in the Armed Forces Construction and Development Plan for 2026–2030, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin told the media following the corresponding report to the head of state on 18 June, BelTA has learned.
“The head of state has broadly supported the proposals. This report will be finalized and turned into a document for implementing the proposals that were presented to the president,” the minister said.
He explained that the plan is designed for the medium term and cannot remain static in the current challenging environment. “Given how rapidly the theory and practice of troop deployment are evolving, and how the forms and methods of armed warfare are changing, we are compelled to constantly monitor this plan and assess whether we are moving in the right direction,” Viktor Khrenin said.
“The president goes into every detail, every proposed change we suggest, and the prospects for the future development of the Armed Forces,” he emphasized.
According to the minister, the planned changes are related to the creation and emergence of new branches of the Armed Forces, and affect the training system for troops and officers at all levels, troop deployment, and defense against unmanned aerial vehicles - primarily fixed-wing drones: how to counter them, and what the air defense system should look like in the future, given the developments around us and the fact that UAVs are becoming increasingly dangerous and sophisticated.
The defense minister assured that such adjustments will certainly continue in the future.
“We have identified six key areas of development. These are, so to speak, the long-term planning perspective - strategic directions. But to achieve them, we still need to make adjustments at the operational and tactical levels,” Viktor Khrenin explained.
