MINSK, 18 June (BelTA) – Belarus and India are steadily expanding cooperation across a wide range of areas, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lukashevich said at an event hosted by the Embassy of India in Belarus to mark the International Day of Yoga, BelTA has learned.
“The International Day of Yoga brings together millions of people around the world around the ideas of harmony, health and inner balance. Yoga is a philosophy of respect for oneself, for the surrounding world and for nature. It is a path to balance that is especially relevant today in a world full of stress, depression and rapid change,” Sergei Lukashevich said.

He emphasized that Belarus highly values India’s contribution to promoting this unique tradition, which has become part of the world’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
“Yoga brings our countries and peoples closer together, contributing to well-being, mutual understanding, and cultural enrichment. I am pleased to note that Belarus and India enjoy warm and trusting relations both at the level of leaders and between ordinary people. Our countries are actively developing cooperation in the economy, education, healthcare and sports. Yoga occupies a special place in this dialogue. Interest in yoga therapy, meditation, and breathing practices is growing among Belarusians. Universities, sports centers, and health resorts are introducing new programs based on Indian methods,” Sergei Lukashevich said.
He described the role of the Embassy of India in promoting yoga in Belarus as exceptionally important, including through programs under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) initiative.

Sergei Lukashevich expressed confidence that such initiatives help strengthen humanitarian ties between the peoples of the two countries, foster better mutual understanding, and create new opportunities for cultural exchanges and joint humanitarian projects.
The International Day of Yoga was established in September 2014 under a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly at the initiative of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is celebrated annually on 21 June and coincides with the summer solstice.
