MINSK, 9 December (BelTA) – Belarus and Iran have agreed on a cooperation plan in promising areas through 2026. This was the key outcome of the 18th meeting of the joint Belarusian-Iranian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation held in Tehran, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry Industry.
The meeting was co-chaired by Belarusian Industry Minister Andrei Kuznetsov and Iranian Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Seyed Mohammad Atabak. Also in attendance were Belarusian Ambassador to Iran Dmitry Koltsov, representatives of central government bodies, and enterprises affiliated with the Industry Ministry.
In his opening remarks, Andrei Kuznetsov praised the implementation of decisions from the commission’s previous meeting while emphasizing the need to strengthen cooperation in several fields.
The minister outlined the priorities for future joint work, which include increasing bilateral trade with a broader range of goods and improving living standards in both countries.
“Belarus is ready to offer Iran high-quality equipment and food products and is interested in buying fruits, vegetables, and pharmaceuticals from Iran,” stated Andrei Kuznetsov.
The implementation of joint projects in the manufacturing sector was highlighted as a key item on the bilateral agenda.
The Belarusian minister also called for a reboot of investment cooperation and continued coordination between relevant departments.
Particular importance was attached to cooperation in science and education, with the 8th meeting of the joint commission on higher education, science, and technology scheduled for 2026.
Further collaboration in culture, sports, and tourism is also planned.
“All these areas of cooperation represent tangible steps to strengthen and expand our relations,” said Andrei Kuznetsov, emphasizing the importance of fully implementing the agreements reached “in order to put into practice the exemplary model of friendly cooperation between the two countries.”
The meeting concluded with the signing of a protocol outlining the agreed upon plan for further cooperation through 2026.
