MINSK 31 January (BelTA) – Belarusian Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin has signed a resolution approving Union State projects, BelTA learned from the government’s press service.
These projects include “On launching and developing cross-border suburban passenger rail service in the Union State between adjacent border regions of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus on the Smolensk–Vitebsk route”, and “On launching and developing cross-border suburban passenger rail service in the Union State between adjacent border regions of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus on the Smolensk–Orsha route”.
The primary aim of these projects is to establish and expand regular cross-border commuter rail service between the regional (administrative) centers of neighboring Russian and Belarusian regions, specifically along the Smolensk–Vitebsk and Smolensk–Orsha corridors, under the Union State framework.
These projects, which carry both reputational and social importance, are to be funded by the Union State budget. An estimated RUB940.734 million has been earmarked for their implementation across the 2026–2028 period.
