Astana to host CSTO meetings on 28 November

MOSCOW, 21 November (BelTA) – Astana will host a meeting of the CSTO statutory bodies, namely the Foreign Ministers Council, the Defense Ministers Council and the Committee of Secretaries of the Security Councils of the member countries of the organization on 28 November, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said at a briefing for the press, BelTA learned.

"On 28 November, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will take part in a joint meeting of the CSTO Foreign Ministers Council, the Defense Ministers Council and the Committee of Secretaries of the Security Councils," Maria Zakharova said. She clarified that the event will be held under the chairmanship of Kazakhstan in Astana before the next session of the CSTO Collective Security Council scheduled for the same day. 

"The parties are set to exchange views on the military-political situation in the regions of collective security, to discuss the results of cooperation within the CSTO, prospects for further development of the collective security system. Special attention will be paid to preparations for the joint celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War," the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said. 

According to her, Kyrgyzstan will inform about the priorities of its chairmanship in the organization in 2025. "It is expected that the ministers will approve a number of documents to be submitted for consideration by the CSTO Collective Security Council and make the decisions to strengthen the allied ties, build up foreign policy coordination, improve crisis response procedures in the CSTO and  its collective forces," Maria Zakharova added.
