Air temperature 2.8°C above norm in Belarus in October

MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) – The air temperature in Belarus in October 2019 averaged 9.5 degrees Celsius, which was 2.8 degrees above the norm, BelTA learned from the National Center for Hydrometeorology, Radioactive Pollution Control, and Environmental Monitoring (Belhydromet) of the Belarusian Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry.

“The last time Belarus saw such warm weather in October was in 1967. Temperatures in October varied. The first ten days of the month were cold, with the air temperature 0.8 degrees below the norm. The next ten days of the month were abnormally warm, with the average air temperature being six degrees Celsius above the climate average. Air temperature in the last ten days of October was 3.2 degrees above the norm. Temperatures on the warmest days of the month climbed to 20°C, breaking temperature records throughout the country,” Belhydromet said.

The weather station Bragin registered a new record on 14 October (24.8°C ). Temperature at night varied from 1 to 10 degrees above zero throughout most of the month. On the coldest nights, the temperature fell below zero. The record low temperature (minus 10.3°C) was registered in Bobruisk on 31 October.

In October, the weather in Belarus was unusually dry. The country had 64% of the climate norm of precipitation (32.1mm). Vitebsk Oblast reported the highest amount of precipitation (86% of the norm), Gomel Oblast – the lowest (29%). Such dry weather is registered in Gomel Oblast only once in seven years. The first ten days of the month saw the highest amount of rainfall (153% of the norm). The second and last thirds of the month were quite dry (21% and 12% of the normal amount of precipitation).
