60,000 people join Belarus’ reforestation campaign

MINSK, 14 April (BelTA) – As many as 60,000 people have joined Belarus’ forest restoration campaign Bringing Forests Back to Life, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Forestry Ministry.

The nationwide voluntary campaign Bringing Forests Back to Life, which was dedicated to the Year of Improvement and the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, has completed.

The campaign ran in all the regions of the country. Gomel Oblast, Mogilev Oblast and Grodno Oblast focused on the restoration of forests following last year’s July storms. Scheduled reforestation efforts were carried out in the rest of the country.

As part of the campaign, forest planting works were carried out at almost 2,400 sites. Thanks to volunteers, new forests were planted on an area of almost 5,400 hectares. Over 27 million trees were planted.

The Forestry Ministry took stock of the works conducted at its regular meeting. Forestry Minister Aleksandr Kulik said that he received a lot of positive feedback from the participants of the campaign. All praised the high level of organization of work in the field. “The campaign was successful,” the minister said.

According to Aleksandr Kulik, a new campaign, Forest! Good Deeds! Proper Order!, is underway. It was initiated by the Forestry Ministry after landscaping one of the war graves, located within the Minsk forestry. The campaign will run through 1 May. Everyone is welcome to take part in it.
