MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) – It is necessary to step up the training of officer personnel and ensure strict oversight over the matter not only in units of the Armed Forces but also in the Military Academy. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement on 3 March as he appointed a number of personnel to executive positions in the State Secretariat of the Security Council, BelTA has learned.
The president remarked that in their new positions Aleksandr Neverovsky and Andrei Gorbatenko will have to work in a complicated period of time. “It is complicated not because we are surrounded by all kinds of political frauds and in the military sense by our adversaries (to put it mildly). Not because of that,” the head of state clarified.
The complication of the jobs they will have to do can be explained primarily by the seriousness of the tasks that have to be accomplished. They were formulated in the course of the snap inspection of the Armed Forces among other things. The inspection had been authorized by the president. As Aleksandr Lukashenko said, it will continue. “It is an example of how we are going to operate in the future,” the head of state stressed.
“Aleksandr Viktorovich [Neverovsky] was directly involved in this inspection and saw everything with his own eyes. I don’t think you were out of it either,” the president told those present.
“We will summarize the results soon. And it will be a very serious time for you,” Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out. “The most important conclusion we are supposed to make on the basis of this inspection I have already identified recently: we have to properly train the officer corps. It is now your task. And it will always be your task. With this in mind I’ve decided to appoint you so that we could see this key problem.”
“Ideal military personnel will not be available. Even in the time of war. We see it in Ukraine on one side and the other side. It is my personal conclusion. And not only mine. Various people will be available, including well-trained and poorly trained. But I caution everyone in advance: those who are prepared well for a war will survive. Those who slack off will not,” the head of state said.
He once again underlined the important role of the officer corps in combat operations: “The key is the officer, who commands a platoon, a company, and so on. If he is prepared, then he will preserve the soldiers, his subordinates, he will preserve the guys on the battlefield. Some may not live up to the standards and doubt that a war will happen… During a war, during a firefight all of it will be revealed. If they did not understand something in their civilian lives, then the officer should prompt them how to operate in the time of war.”
“I cannot say that things are ideal in this regard. And these are your shortcomings. This is why in the new position you should rigorously oversee the training of our military personnel not only in units of the Armed Forces but also in the [Military] Academy,” the president identified the range of tasks.
