Lukashenko wants less spending on street lights

MINSK, 3 February (BelTA) – It is necessary to adjust the timing of street lights. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko gave the relevant instruction during a government conference held to discuss a number of matters concerning the social and economic development of Vitebsk Oblast, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko drew attention to the matter as an example of a wise approach that should be embraced not only by manufacturing enterprises or agricultural enterprises but other spheres as well. The same approach should be used to street lighting. The president pointed out that street lights are turned off too late in the morning and are turned on too early when it is still quite bright outdoors.

“For instance, I can see it in Ostroshitsky Gorodok and other villages. The entire Minsk Oblast was ablaze at six in the evening yesterday. The lights were on. And it happens everywhere. You have only yourselves to blame. You will pay at least out of your own pocket. All the street lights are turned on. Everything shines. Everything is alight in Minsk Oblast and further on. At six in the evening. What for? You can turn off street lights at half past seven. Particularly now when there is plenty of light. But no, all the street lights are turned on,” the head of state said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that he had given instructions to sort out the problem. He had been told that light sensors allegedly do not work well. “Total nonsense. Tune these light sensors so that electricity and your artificial intelligence get turned off at seven in the morning. And lights should be turned on at eight in the evening instead of six. Consider that the entire country has lights for [extra] 4-5 hours. We spend so much money! It is your approach,” the Belarusian leader stated.
“You are out of your minds. You definitely want to bring a war to this country. Well, keep in mind that we will have to be in front ranks. You will have to be in assault teams,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
