Lukashenko wants Belarusians to feel calm despite global turbulence

MINSK, 15 January (BelTA) – At an Old New Year reception on 12 January Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko urged to do everything to make Belarusians feel calm and at ease despite the turbulence in the world, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus has entered a new year with great hopes and aspirations that are rooted in the events of the past year,” the president said. “The Old New Year gives us a great opportunity to review our experiences and take our most remarkable achievements and the things that make us proud into the new year. First of all, this is extraordinary talent and conscientious work of professionals who are present in this room today - journalists, artists, teachers, social workers,” he said.

Among the invitees are also those who make high-level decisions, improve the public health system, protect peace and stability, the national borders and security, added Aleksandr Lukashenko.

“Dear friends, today the world is very turbulent, but we must do everything to make Belarusians feel calm and at ease,” the Belarusian leader emphasized. “I want to warn you: the world is on the brink of the most epoch-making events. Today we are in such a difficult situation that it feels like walking on thin ice. One careless step can get us in trouble, turn the state upside down. Therefore, this year will not be a smooth journey for us. Everything suggests that it will be very stormy. But we must do everything to make it quiet and calm. The world seems to be going through a tumultuous time and the worst is yet to come,” the president said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko stated that America is the superpower that wants multipolarity the least. “They want to rule the whole world, as it was after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Ukraine, the Middle East, the border between the Indian Ocean and Atlantic Ocean, the Houthis... These bombings are a show of force in the run-up to the U.S elections and they need to flex their muscles. I’m afraid that this turmoil can spread across the Indian Ocean up to Taiwan. The whole world could burst into flames. This should not be allowed to happen,” the president said.

“Our task is to maintain peace and calm in our state,” the Belarusian leader emphasized. Addressing Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko, the president said: “There will be peace and calm as long as our economy is strong. This largely depends on you, on the government, and on all of us. Each of those present has made and will make a personal contribution to it.”
