MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) – Under Donald Trump, the USA will put the European Union in such a position that it will not be able to get on its feet for many decades or centuries, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko told journalists after casting his ballot in the presidential election on 26 January, BelTA has learned.
“Trump was lambasted for days on end. But as soon as Trump won the election, you [in Europe] started crawling across the Atlantic Ocean towards him. Some are crawling on the bottom, some on top. Some do not know how to get to Trump today. You in Europe are having a hard time. The writing is already on the wall. You need to worry about this. With Trump coming to power, it is not Belarus that is going to face problems. Problems will emerge in Europe. You have already got them,” the head of state said answering a question from a BBC journalist.
“He told you this bluntly, and I support him on this. I am on board with him, although not on everything. He told you: 'Guys, are you ready to fight for Ukraine? Well, then pay not 2%, but 5%. And you are twisting and turning like snakes without understanding how to find a way out of this situation. Trump wanted to bring Europe into line, so he tore Great Britain out of the EU. Why would he do it, if America wanted to strengthen the European Union? He did it. Who is he casting his lot with? With the Poles. Doesn't he understand that the Germans and the Poles are long-time archenemies? Are you or anyone else not aware of this? You simply keep quiet. Why are you splitting Europe, why are you betting on Poland? Because this is his policy,” the president said.
