MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko sees that the United States is frustrated with the European Union’s decision to pull back from supporting a number of Washington’s actions. The head of state shared this with journalists while commenting on the previous day’s talks with the U.S. delegation led by Special Envoy John Coale, BelTA has learned.
“What is surprising – and I usually try to avoid this topic in discussions – we also spent quite a lot of time talking about Russia and China. And about the Europeans’ position. I wanted to know how the Americans, people directly involved in this, feel about the Europeans betraying them. We discussed this topic as well,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted. “They, of course, are deeply hurt by this. Both Trump and his team took it very hard. They say: ‘'We always helped them.’ We know how they helped – NATO, economic support. The Europeans simply wouldn’t have made it without the Americans. For example, they pulled Germany back from the brink after the war, and so on.”
“There is a long history behind it. Trump has German roots, I think. So for them, this is deeply painful and upsetting. They will get through it, of course. But they need to find a sensible way out of this situation [referring to the war in Iran]. I shared my view with them,” the president added.
