Lukashenko orders to renovate wastewater treatment facilities in every region

MINSK, 10 January (BelTA) - Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko set a task to renovate wastewater treatment facilities in every region during his visit to the Shchomyslitsa water pumping station on 10 January, BelTA has learned.

Chairman of Minsk City Executive Committee Vladimir Kukharev informed the head of state that the city has already embarked on the renovation of wastewater treatment facilities. The project will be implemented in several stages. First, mechanical treatment facilities will be revamped; this work is already underway. During the second stage, biological treatment facilities will be upgraded. The third stage provides for the preparation of sludge disposal and processing facilities.

"We will proceed to the fourth and fifth stages by the end of the year. We plan to complete the first three stages within two years," Vladimir Kukharev stated. “In 2028, we are set to completely renovate Minsk treatment facilities and fit them out with advanced technologies. It will be virtually a zero-waste production."

“Minsk should tackle this problem within the next five-year period. It might be resolved earlier, but not later. This will be the country’s biggest waste processing project. We need to consider the construction of similar facilities in other large cities (primarily oblast centers, maybe even in cities with a population of 100,000). This will be a so-called pilot project; it will be implemented in Minsk and in every region during this five-year period. This is very important,” Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized.
