MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) – The opposition are those people who chose to stay in the country, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko told journalists on 26 January, BelTA has learned.
The head of state went on saying: “Here is Anna Konopatskaya, one of the presidential candidates who represents the opposition in our country. She has been relentlessly criticizing me for 15 years. And her persistence is supported by some people in our society. In the evening we will find out how much support she has. This will be a kind of sociological survey.”
“This is one of the platforms,” noted Aleksandr Lukashenko.
“As to the communists, no matter how much they praise me, they disagree with the government on certain issues. They see certain things differently. I am ready to engage in a dialogue with them and with other candidates, because they can make some impact in the country. And if they become members of parliament, if someone becomes president - why not maintain a dialogue with them? We will have to do it. And those people … What impact can they make? It is you who need to maintain a dialogue with them, dear Germans. Watch out, stay on guard. They will cause you so many problems that you will break your neck dealing with them. You are creating military formations in Poland and Lithuania, and you have created a Belarusian volunteer corps in Ukraine. Are you sure they will not use these machine guns against you?” the president asked.
“So what shall I talk to them about? If there are proposals, we will consider them. The opinion of the people who support me is very important to me,” the president emphasized.
