MINSK, 23 December (BelTA) – Belarusian specialists could take part in the production of Moskvich cars, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting with Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin on 23 December, BelTA has learned.
"I am impressed by what you have been doing in Moscow. You have done even such things that seem to be unusual for you, especially recently. I heard that you have also started making drones to help the Russian army. That is a great initiative. I fully support your decision to produce the cars of the brand, which we used to know well, but at a higher level, ignoring these Western sanctions. I think there will be a place for Belarus in these projects, especially in terms of manufacturing vehicle components and other products. Perhaps there could be opportunities in other areas as well," the head of state said.

The president recalled that Belarus manufactures BelGee cars using Chinese technologies, but it is not an assembly production. "Recently, [Russia's First Deputy Prime Minister] Denis Manturov has visited Belarus. I asked Putin to send him over here to inspect our car plant. He toured it and said: 'It is a true factory'," Aleksandr Lukashenko noted. "But we will definitely learn from you, because the Moskvich and other car brands were our common projects. Belarus used to participate in the production of these cars. Therefore, I think you will not mind."
