MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) – The snap inspection of the Armed Forces authorized by the Belarus president continues. A tank battalion of the 120th Independent Guards Mechanized Brigade has been mustered as part of the inspection, BelTA has learned.
The alert caught the battalion’s soldiers in a military training area in Borisov District where they were conducting exercises. “We are always ready to carry out any task at any time. This time we had to return to our permanent station as quickly as possible. After that, we gathered supplies, prepared weapons, military and special equipment. The soldiers are fine with carrying out these tasks. The mood in the team is good. Everyone is ready to carry out the order,” said Aleksei Lyashenko, Chief of Staff of the independent tank battalion.
Matvei Mytko, a tank gunner in the independent tank battalion, said that after receiving the signal to bring the unit to combat readiness, he prepared the cannon and installed anti-aircraft machine guns. “Together with the rest of the crew we also fully prepared our vehicles for the march. We are ready to carry out the task as part of the battalion,” the soldier emphasized.
Apart from that, the tankman pointed out that this is not the first test in which he has participated. “It’s very interesting. I like participating in such events more than just sitting around. Such inspections are a test not only for the army units, but also for every individual soldier, an opportunity to show their skills and hone them,” Matvei Mytko is convinced.
BelTA reported earlier that the large-scale inspection of the Armed Forces authorized by the head of state began on 16 January. Aleksandr Lukashenko personally monitors its progress. A new system has been worked out to enable the president to place military units on combat alert without involving the Defense Ministry and the General Staff. The primary goal of this inspection is to see an objective picture. This is why the events are sudden.
