Lukashenko explains how Belarusian border guard saved migrant

MINSK, 9 August (BelTA) – It was a difficult situation but the Belarusian border service acted fast to save the man's life. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement during a meeting with representatives of the general public, experts, and mass media titled as the Big Conversation with the President on 9 August, BelTA has learned.

Chairman of the State Border Committee of Belarus Anatoly Lappo clarified that personnel of the Polotsk branch of the Belarusian border service had detected an attempt of Lithuanian law enforcement agencies to violently expel migrants into Belarus' territory. “One of them dropped right at the border. He pointed at his belly and said insulin,” the official said.

Belarusian border service personnel promptly came to the rescue of the person who needed urgent aid.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “He dropped right at the border line, with his legs still in Lithuania and his head in Belarus. What could they do? They couldn't violate the border. But he [Chairman of the State Border Committee of Belarus Anatoly Lappo] did well and made the decision. Border guard personnel were told to go to the border line and recover that guy. He would have died within ten minutes. He got an injection. Bastards. A man was lying at the border line dying. We couldn't approach him because he had been running from the other side. It is good that Lithuanians didn't complain about our trespassing. We didn't cross the border. We took him by the hands, pulled him out, and took him to a hospital. What kind of thing is that when a person is about to die right in front of you and asks for aid? And you reproach us for something? Well, go ahead and reproach us. You have gone astray just like our so-called protesters. But you can see here what is going on. You are human rights advocates. Why don't you protect these people?”
