MINSK, 31 January (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized the role of applied science in the development of the country during his meeting with scientists on 31 January, BelTA has learned.
The head of state emphasized the importance of application-oriented science, noting that Belarusian scientists have gradually started to take it into account in their activities. However, according to the president, it should be done much faster.
“Science is finally starting to move in this direction, but it is still doing it slowly. It is just beginning to make such steps. We should all be there, in this process, if we want to survive,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
“Election is not just about winning. I understand what people want. But we can't do it without our people. Especially without science,” he continued. “This five-year plan is not only a five-year period of young people. It is a five-year period for scientists. It does not matter to me what age you are - young, old, or middle-aged. The main thing is that you should be able to generate not only ideas, but also develop them and make them applicable to our life, to our economy. This is the main thing. If there is a sound economy, there will be a country.”
