Good prospects for higher Belarus-Turkey trade

MINSK, 13 November (BelTA) – There are good prospects for developing trade with Turkey. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement as he met with Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Binali Yildirim, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko noted that the potential of Belarusian-Turkish relations has not been fully explored. “But the one billion trade turnover we are going to have this year – or maybe more than that – is a good accomplishment of our countries,” said the Belarusian leader.

“We know what Turkey needs. You know what Belarus needs. By exchanging these goods we can bolster the overall trade growth,” added Alexander Lukashenko.

The head of state pointed out it is necessary to address a number of issues, primarily trade and economic ones.

Alexander Lukashenko remarked that Binali Yildirim's election as the speaker of the Turkish parliament testifies to the high trust of the nation and the leadership of Turkey. “We closely follow events in your country. All the more so because Turkey has been a center of attraction of all forces recently, particularly due to the disquiet situation in your region. Your independent policy, your stance on global development matters appeal to us. You've accomplished a great deal in this regard,” said the Belarusian leader.

In turn, Binali Yildirim conveyed good wishes from Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to his Belarusian counterpart..
