Zas: Russia-West talks on security guarantees are in CSTO interests

MOSCOW, 9 February (BelTA) – The talks on security guarantees between Russia and the West are in the interests of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas said at the conference “Collective Security in a New Era: Experience and Prospects of the CSTO” that is taking place at the Moscow headquarters of the Valdai Discussion Club with the support of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 9 February, BelTA has learned.

“We are witnessing a significant buildup of NATO forces along the western border of the CSTO zone of responsibility, the upgrade of military infrastructure in adjacent territories. We see an increasing military activity, in fact, the militarization of the whole region. This does not only create threats for Belarus and Russia, but is also detrimental to the security of our entire organization,” Stanislav Zas said.

“I am entitled to say this on behalf of the entire organization, because this is exactly what is written in the CSTO development strategy until 2025,” Stanislav Zas noted.

“The initiatives of the Russian Federation, the difficult negotiations it is conducting with Western partners to reduce tension in Eastern Europe and in Eurasia as a whole, are in the interests of the CSTO,” Stanislav Zas added.
