Ukraine, Russia continue discussing POW exchange

MINSK, 18 September (BelTA) – Ukraine and Russia continue discussing the exchange of captives, BelTA learned from Vladislav Deinego, a representative of certain areas of Donetsk Oblast and Lugansk Oblast in the trilateral contact group on resolving the situation in Ukraine's east.

Vladislav Deinego said: “Discussion about the exchange continues. Certain alternative approaches to procedural clearance have been found.”

He said that work on the lists continues, the lists are being verified. “I hope during the next meeting of the contact group we will reach some concrete decisions, which will allow us to come up with real dates for carrying out the exchange,” Vladislav Deinego said.

In September Ukraine and Russia swapped captives freeing 35 people detained in each country. The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the move as a very significant step and a noble deed. Anatoly Glaz, Head of the Information and Digital Diplomacy Office, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said back then: “We are genuinely glad, primarily as human beings. The people will return to their friends and families. What can be more important than that?”
