Russian analyst: The opposition is trying to make Belarusians angry and push them into streets

MINSK, 17 September (BelTA) – The opposition is trying to make Belarusians angry, radicalize them, and make them participate in street protests. The Russian political analyst Sergei Mikheyev made the statement on the air of the Belarusian TV channel ONT, BelTA has learned.

Experts from various countries are busy analyzing the situation in Belarus. One of the things to consider is the validity of the so-called overall strategic plan of the opposition, which calls for strikes and walkouts, encourages citizens to refuse to pay taxes and utility bills, boycott Belarusian products and state-run banks. According to political analysts, it is a destructive idea that will hit ordinary citizens hard.

Sergei Mikheyev said the opposition pursues a rather understandable tactics meant to deprive the Belarusian government of revenues. “However, as they deprive the Belarusian state of revenues, they shoot themselves in the foot. Nothing will come out of it except for lower living standards of ordinary Belarusians,” he noted.

Sergei Mikheyev is convinced that the Belarusian opposition wants radicalization and angry mobs in the streets. “The opposition wants to deprive people of money, of salaries in order to make them angry, radicalize them, and push them once again into the streets. Political slogans and talk about revising results of the presidential election didn't cut it or failed to produce the desired effect. How can they make people angry? Either by provocations involving blood or by taking steps to leave people nothing to eat,” the analyst concluded.
