Putin suggests joint training of Belarusian, Russian athletes for Olympics

ST PETERSBURG, 18 July (BelTA) – It would be useful to expand the use of the sports infrastructure of Belarus and Russia for the joint training of athletes, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the plenary session of the 6th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia on 18 July, BelTA has learned.

“It would be useful to expand the practice of using the sports infrastructure of our countries for the joint training of Russian and Belarusian athletes for big international competitions, and in particular, for the forthcoming Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo and the Winter Olympics in Beijing,” Vladimir Putin said.

The Russian president congratulated the Belarusian authorities on the successful organization of the 2nd European Games in Minsk. “I would like to congratulate the president of Belarus, who personally did a lot for the organization of these big international competitions,” the head of state said. He added that the Russian and Belarusian athletes won the biggest number of medals at the games.
