Parlatino ready to defend international law principles together with Belarus

MINSK, 23 April (BelTA) – The Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino) is ready to uphold the principles of international law together with Belarus. Parlatino President Rolando Gonzalez Patricio made the statement to the press after meetings at the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, BelTA has learned.

During the meetings at the House of Representatives nearly complete alignment with Belarus’ position on many points was noted, Rolando Gonzalez Patricio said.
“We fully agree with how Belarus positions itself and are ready to work together to uphold international law and oppose unilateral measures applied to some states,” he said.

Apart from that, the sides discussed specific points of further interaction to expand cooperation. Apart from discussing political matters, the conversation focused on advancing cooperation in education and science. The sides noted the large number of plans for subsequent implementation.
The Parlatino president noted that it is a great honor for him to visit Belarus, especially in connection with a significant date – the tenth anniversary since Belarus became an observer in Parlatino.

“I would like to thank you for the invitation and note that from this moment on, despite the enormous geographical distance between our continents, we will feel this distance much less. Today’s meetings have brought us closer together,” he said.

Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Vadim Ipatov emphasized that the visit of the Parlatino delegation to Belarus is very important. It underscores the interest of Belarus and the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean in mutual cooperation.

“The most important aspects of stepping up this cooperation were discussed today. It is based on mutual friendship, mutual cooperation, and respect,” he said.
The deputy speaker of the House of Representatives noted that today in the context of the turbulence accompanying world events, the existence of common approaches and views regarding the sovereignty and independence of countries and non-interference in the internal affairs of states was once again emphasized.

Speaking about the economic component of cooperation, Vadim Ipatov noted that Belarus is ready to share its existing achievements with colleagues in various fields: education, healthcare, agriculture, and industry. The same position is held by the other side.

The visit to Belarus is taking place on a significant date: 10 years ago an agreement was signed on cooperation between the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and the Latin American Parliament.
