Opinion: Countries can only survive as part of unions in modern world

MINSK, 25 February (BelTA) - Sovereign states can only survive in today's world as part of regional unions, Andrei Savinykh, Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives, said in an interview to the ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“We are in a hard process of separation. Sovereign states will not survive in these conditions alone, they can do it only as part of regional alliances - political, economic and military,” said Andrei Savinykh.

According to the MP, this thesis was indirectly confirmed by the Munich conference of 19 February, which was designed to demonstrate the unity of the West.

In this regard, the MP also recalled the words of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko at the 6th Belarusian People's Congress. The head of state said then that the world has entered a period of large-scale transformation and all the leading players have joined the struggle for the redistribution of their zones of influence.
