NATO supports Belarus on many security matters

MINSK, 15 December (BelTA) – NATO supports Belarus' approaches to many security-related matters. The statement was made by Petr Lunak, representative of the NATO Public Diplomacy Division, during the seminar held on 15 December to discuss NATO and international security in 2017, BelTA has learned.

The NATO representative drew attention to Belarus' openness and transparency in the course of the Belarusian-Russian strategic army exercise Zapad 2017 when the country provided the necessary information in a briefing at the NATO HQ and in the OSCE, too. Petr Lunak also mentioned the importance of scientific projects within the framework of Belarus-NATO cooperation. “Public diplomacy is a field where cooperation advances best of all. A recent visit of Belarusian reporters and experts to the NATO HQ confirmed it. We hope the dialogue with Belarus will be expanded,” stressed the NATO representative.

The seminar was organized by the Belarusian think-tank Foreign Policy and Security Research Center with assistance of the NATO Public Diplomacy Division (PDD). Representatives of international organizations, government agencies, public structures of Belarus, embassies, including the Estonian embassy (NATO's contact embassy in Belarus), as well as experts and scientists focusing on international security took part in the seminar.
