LONDON, 22 November (BelTA) – Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Rumas believes it is important to step up contacts between Belarus and Moldova at the government level. Sergei Rumas made the relevant statement as he met with his Moldovan counterpart Ion Chicu on 22 November, BelTA has learned.
Sergei Rumas noted: “We have very good contacts at the level of the presidents. In 2019 alone Moldova President Igor Dodon visited Belarus three times. It is a good indicator that good contacts have been established between the countries at the top political level.”
At the same time there is no such tight cooperation between the governments yet. “I think our meeting will be the first signal that will help fill the gap,” Sergei Rumas said.
In his opinion, the two countries have many spheres for cooperation. “Moldova has products that we import anyway. Belarus knows the quality of Moldovan products such as wines, fruits, and many other ones. It seems to me it is the government's area of responsibility. We should put efforts into increasing our trade turnover. We have a number of instructions of the heads of state to that effect,” the Belarusian head of government added.
Ion Chicu remarked that the Moldovan government intends to advance relations primarily with friendly countries and Belarus is one of them. “We notice not only a good level of trade and economic cooperation but also of humanitarian cooperation. Indeed, the governments should borrow the experience of communication between our heads of state. This communication only benefits relations between the countries,” he said.
