MINSK, 5 December (BelTA) - Head of the Belarusian delegation at the OSCE Ministerial Council meeting in Vienna, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Sekreta, held meetings with OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioğlu and OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Jan Braathu on 4 and 5 December, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the meeting with the OSCE secretary general, the deputy minister of foreign affairs highlighted the organization’s important role in ensuring stability and security in the Euro-Atlantic region against the backdrop of an unprecedented escalation of tensions on the continent. Igor Sekreta expressed support for the secretary general’s efforts aimed at finding paths to sustainable peace and restoring the organization’s functionality. He stated Belarus’ readiness for further constructive engagement with all OSCE bodies to prevent and resolve conflicts.
The head of the Belarusian delegation, meeting with the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, reaffirmed Minsk’s interest in a constructive dialogue with the office, highlighting the ongoing information exchange and readiness to discuss a broad spectrum of media-related topics. Igor Sekreta pointed out the lack of reaction from Jan Braathu’s office to numerous instances of persecution and discrimination against journalists from Belarusian state media, which Belarus has repeatedly drawn attention to in the past.
The head of the Belarusian delegation expressed hope for an objective and impartial approach in the future work of the office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media.
