Makei, Lavrov to openly discuss Belarus-Russia relations in Moscow

MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei intends to openly and sincerely discuss the entire agenda of Belarus-Russia relations during the meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on 27 May, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Makei said: “There is a great deal of questions. As always, we intend to openly and sincerely discuss the entire agenda of our relations with my counterpart.”

Vladimir Makei urged not to try to find some catch, some hidden motive due to reports about the forthcoming meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs of Belarus and Russia. “We exchange visits with my colleague regularly. He visited the Republic of Belarus last year. It is my turn to visit the Russian Federation this year,” he explained.

The Belarusian minister of foreign affairs also mentioned what topics they intended to touch upon during the meeting. “Within the framework of such meetings we usually analyze interaction, cooperation both on the bilateral basis and the multilateral format. This time we are going to discuss preparations for and the organization of a joint session of the boards of the Belarusian and Russian ministries of foreign affairs, which is due in Russia in autumn, and contours of the next program of concerted actions in the area of foreign policy,” Vladimir Makei said.

Vladimir Makei did not rule out the possibility that the conversation might touch upon deliveries of oil and oil products. Asked whether the two ministers of foreign affairs are going to discuss the hot button topics like oil, Vladimir Makei said: “He and I discuss all the issues, including the hottest ones. We always openly and sincerely discus all the matters relating to our bilateral cooperation and interaction within the framework of multilateral organizations.”
